Facing chilly but bright conditions 40 competitors were welcomed to the Annual Dewar Open Shoot at East Grinstead at the weekend. Despite the wind playing a few tricks it was Linda Smallbone of Eastbourne who came away 10 points ahead of her nearest rival, Tony Wells of Cuckfield, with a remarkable 788 ex 800 which is the highest score in the competition since the introduction of the smaller targets in the 1980's. Linda also won the Ladies Dewar, the Open Dewar, the Veterans Dewar and was top scorer at both 50 metres and 100 yards.
Class B was won by Lionel Vines of Cuckfield, with honours for East Grinstead being preserved by victories for David White in Class C and Elaine Kettle in Class D. East Grinstead were also the winners of the Team of three event with Malcolm Brain, Tim Green and Andy Meyers achieving a joint score of 2,311. Sheena Wilde of East Grinstead won the Class D Open Dewar and the 40 shots at 50 metres award. The FA Anderson Trophy for best Junior was won by Nick Humphries of East Grinstead.
