Sussex Shooters at Scottish Open 201405 Jul 2014
Following an excellent week at the Scottish Open small-bore target shooting competition at Lauder, two members of the East Grinstead Target Shooting Club were selected to shoot for England against Scotland in the closing match. Andy Meyers of East Grinstead in X Class was second in the aggregate competition; a remarkable achievement as it was his first X Class competition. He also won the Bennet memorial Cup for 60 shots at 100 yards and the Barclays Bank WD Doe Trophy for the highest aggregate score at 100 yards regardless of Class. Malcolm Brain of East Grinstead achieved a creditable 15th in X Class out of 32 and joined Andy Meyers in the England team of 10 against Scotland. They finished joint 6th out of ten together with Sussex shooter Sue Thomas. Unfortunately the Scots were more at home on the range and were the victors of the match. The Ladies Team of 5 included Sue Thomas and Linda Smallbone from Sussex, who did better in their match by beating Scotland.
