East Grinstead Shooters on Target at Bisley National Championships

Eight members of the East Grinstead Target Shooting Club took part in the 2018 National Small-bore Championships at Bisley between 11 and 17 August, and produced some excellent results in tricky wind and light conditions, plus a major downpour.

However, spirits were not dampened even for those camping and following consistent high scoring Andy Meyers of East Grinstead won a place in the England Team for a match against Scotland, which England won.

To crown this achievement Andy Meyers went on to win the Society of Miniature Rifle Club’s Challenge Cup with a score of 393 ex 400.  This prestigious cup was first competed for in 1906, and previous winners include the late Malcolm Cooper, who won Gold Medals at the 1984 and 1988 Summer Olympic Games.

Six members of the East Grinstead Club pre-qualified to represent Sussex County in the Astor Team Competition, shot at 50m and 100yards, and gained a creditable fourth place.

All the shooters had an enjoyable week with plenty to celebrate.
