City of London Finals

The City of London finals were held at Surbiton Rifle Club on Saturday April 27.  In the team shoot-off, contested by the four divisional champions from the Winter season, East Grinstead had two teams representing the club.  The ‘A’ team achieved the highest total gun score but lost out on the Macrae handicap system, with the EGTSC ‘C’ team of Graham Rowcroft, Elaine Kettle, Phil Wood, Mike Levy & Chris Phillips (standing in for Sheena Wilde) winning the trophy.

In the Individual Final, open to all shooters achieving an average of 97 or more over the 20 rounds of the City of London Winter season, East Grinstead had five qualifiers.
Trevor Wilde finished 2nd, Malcolm Brain 4th, David White 7th & John Tadman 8th.
Simon Bushell also qualified but was unable to attend the final because of prior commitments.

Croydon Individual Finals, 28th April

Eight members qualified for the Croydon Individual Finals, held at Gally Hill on Sunday but, unfortunately, only half that number were able to attend on the day.
In Class 'A', Malcolm Brain got off to a slow start and although he matched the eventual winner, point for point, on the later cards, that first one made all the difference and he had to settle for second place and a silver medal.
In Class ‘C’, East Grinstead shooters were first and second just a few minutes before the results were announced, only for a shooter on the final detail to power past them both, relegating Phil Wood to 2nd place and the silver medal.  Jim Howard took bronze in 3rd place.
George Christopherson finished in 5th place in class ‘B’.
Simon Bushell, Jeremy Allen, Sheena Wilde & Jo Downing were the other qualifiers unable to attend.

Croydon & District Winter Cup

Following the individual presentations, two team awards were given out.  Malcolm Brain accepted the very large shield for the champions of Division 1 on behalf of EGTSC ‘A’ team, who successfully defended the title they won last year.  This time, the team consisted of Malcolm, Trevor Wilde, Simon Bushell, George Christopherson and Jeremy Allen.
Both East Grinstead ‘A’ and ‘B’ teams qualified for the Final shoot-off for the Winter Cup, each winning their division with a 100% record.  The Macrae handicap formula used in the final means that teams from the lower divisions often triumph and this was no exception.  Despite getting the highest total gun score, the EGTSC ‘A’ team only finished 3rd with the trophy going to the EGTSC ‘B’ team of Sheena Wilde, Alan Lindsay, Phil Wood, Jo Downing and Jim Howard who accepted the trophy on their behalf.

Very well done to all of you.
