Mike Kettle. July 19, 2015

Just a reminder that coaching facilities will be reduced during the holiday period. Please bear with us if you need looking after.

Especially 15-25 August (NSRA National Meeting @ Bisley). Good luck to Malcolm Brain, Andy Meyers, Jim Howard, David White, and Laura Meyers who are the ones I know are going.

Mike Kettle. July 19, 2015

Apologies if there's a residual smell in the Armoury. One of the lights expired with a melting plastic / electric smell !
All fixed now with a LED replacement which uses less than half the power of the fluorescent.
Thanks to Malcolm for his help in fitting it.

Elaine Kettle. July 12, 2015

Check out the website for Andy and Malcolm's report on Scotland.....well their shooting anyway!!

Spotting scope question: What spec should I be looking at for a good entry level scope?

Is this type of thing, [Link not available] going to be any good for 25, 50 & 100 yd shooting, or at least better at 100 than the ones from the 25yd range at the club.

Comments

Christopher Phillips. Andy Bone I have a good scope for sale if your interested, there are pictures on the website, and I can show it to you this week if your down?
June 15, 2015 at 2:40pm

Andy Bone. Are you at the club on Friday?
June 15, 2015 at 3:42pm

Christopher Phillips I can be, yes,
June 15, 2015 at 3:46pm

Andy Bone. I managed to look on the website at your scope, and whilst I have no doubt it is a great piece of kit it is a bit more than I am looking to spend. Do not worry about Friday.
June 15, 2015 at 6:49pm

Christopher Phillips. How much are you looking to spend? You are more than welcome to try it out and see what you think?
June 15, 2015 at 9:51pm

Andy Bone. At the moment my budget is less than half of your asking price. Would be great to try it out, but if you are looking for a quick sale then I am afraid I would not be the customer for you.
June 15, 2015 at 9:55pm

Andy Bone. To pick up on my own question, I just picked up one of these Maginon scopes in Aldi for £19.99. Got to be worth a punt at that price.
June 24, 2015 at 11:09am

Christopher Phillips. The way I see it you get what you pay for!! I think Trevor Craig Wilde and sheena bought one of those, and I'm sure he can tell you if it's any good!
June 24, 2015 at 12:48pm

Andy Bone. Probably quite true, but I'm willing to chance it for £20 :-)
June 24, 2015 at 12:50pm

Trevor Craig Wilde. Andy Bone they are worse than the club scopes. Don't buy.

The trial for the International Dewar Match were held at Appleton Range near Warrington on 20th June.

Andy Meyers & Malcolm Brain from East Grinstead TSC were selected for the trial and Andy (with 783 ex 800) was selected for the main team and Malcolm (781) was first reserve.

Many congratulations to Andy and Malcolm!

Just a reminder to everybody - this Sunday is the Sussex Rifle meeting. There is still plenty of room & I assume that Linda Smallbone will accept entries on the day.

Both the Air & Indoor ranges will be unavailable on Sunday.

Elaine Kettle. May 27, 2015

Any volunteers to help in the kitchen on the 7th June - Sussex Open Shoot. I'm shooting 10am and 12noon. All profits go to Club funds and keep your subscriptions down !!

Comments

Peter Watson. Kitchen is that the place were food comes from. I think we have one in the house somewhere.
May 27, 2015 at 9:01am

Elaine Kettle. I guess you're not volunteering then!! :(
May 27, 2015 at 9:12am

Sarah Collyer. I'm off to Falmouth to look at the Uni that weekend or would have helped sorry.
May 27, 2015 at 10:43am

Elaine Kettle. Thats OK - Sam would recommend Falmouth I'm sure!!
May 27, 2015 at 5:10pm

Elaine Kettle. There must be someone out there who can make tea? Or with a wife who would love to spend time in our kitchen. Julie has kindly volunteered but if it gets busy 2 people are useful!!

Andy Bone. May 27, 2015

Big thanks to Malcolm for organising the batch testing last weekend. Was both a fun and informative exercise. I for one was surprised at the differing performance between batches.

Now all I have to do is get my grouping to match the test.

Comments

Peter Watson. Interesting all round strange that no misfires happened in the batches for test.
May 27, 2015 at 12:29pm

Elaine Kettle. I had a batch where the lead was loose in the brass - they didn't seem worried!
May 28, 2015 at 8:33am

Mike Kettle. There's an article on the website here.
May 29, 2015 at 10:44am

Elaine Kettle. May 24, 2015

Well I've just wasted £20 finding out that it's me that's rubbish rather than my barrel ...... :)

Comments

Trevor Craig Wilde. What was your group size.
May 24, 2015 at 5:37pm

Peter Watson. No you have not wasted time you have just eliminated another factor.
May 24, 2015 at 6:44pm

Mike Kettle. May 24, 2015

Just finished the batch testing. Now to the sofa!

Eley Testing

A reminder about the Eley Batch testing on Saturday & Sunday (23rd/24th) - there are still a few slots available so if you want to buy Edge ammunition that suits your barrel - or if you just want to test your rifle to see how straight it shoots, contact Malcolm Brain for more details.

Comments

Elaine Kettle. I gather Eley are only using 3 firing points so normal shooting is available!

Bank Holiday Opening

The club will be open on Bank Holiday Monday so if you want to come along, please be there by 10:00 as the front door will be locked at that time. The normal restrictions apply - we will not be able to offer training or supervision.

Trevor Craig Wilde. May 9, 2015

Can any body help. I bought raiser blocks front and back for my fwb. 12.5 mm. Will the sights still be the same setting for 25yrds. Or will I have to adjust my sights by 12.5 mm.

Comments

Mike Kettle. If I've got my geometry right you will need to raise point of impact by 12.5mm. Assuming a sight base of 1m, your rearsight will need to go up 0.5mm.
May 9, 2015 at 8:06pm

Trevor Craig Wilde. Ok, so if the block is 12.5. Then I need to come up 6 mm.
May 9, 2015 at 8:10pm

Mike Kettle. The barrel is depressed 12.5mm front and back so the point of aim will drop 12.5mm as is parallel to the original but 12.5mm lower. Moving the rear sight has a 25 to 1 affect because it operates over the sight base (1m). So the rear sight needs to move 12.5mm/25 = 0.5mm.
May 9, 2015 at 8:20pm

Trevor Craig Wilde. Thanks Mike Kettle.
May 9, 2015 at 8:25pm

Peter Watson. I could be wrong but It should not make any difference.
May 9, 2015 at 8:54pm

Mike Kettle. Only one way to find out!
May 9, 2015 at 9:52pm

Trevor Craig Wilde. Will try tomorrow. Didn't want to shoot the lights or Andys elastic
May 9, 2015 at 9:53pm

Peter Watson. Correction rear sight will have to up about 6/8 clicks
May 9, 2015 at 10:30pm

Elaine Kettle. May 4, 2015

Don't forget it's the Thwaites on Sunday - English Match organised by Eastbourne. Last year the ladies won every class so hopefully we can repeat it!!

Trevor Craig Wilde. April 25, 2015

Well done Sheena. She shot 98 and 94 in the city final.

Elaine Kettle. April 22, 2015

David White do you think you could check your winner's medal - I have the Class B one here so I'm guessing you were given the Class C one by mistake. Can you bring it back down the Club - thanks...

Congratulations to all EG shooters who won at the weekend - clean sweep of the pairs and threes, Class D won by Sam, Class B won by David, Juniors by Charles, and I'm sure Sheena, Trevor and Graham collected prizes too.

Mike's Ecology people urgently need 2 litre fizzy drink bottles for a newt counting job. If you have any empty ones, can you bring them down the Club - clean, unsquashed and no lids. We'll be there all weekend. Thanks.

Can someone help, can one put a side 500 match ammo for the weekend open shoot. We cannot get to the club before to purchase as the house was flooded . Been running around sorting it out. Will pay for it on Sunday. Cheers

Comments

Mike Kettle. No problem. See you then.

Peter Watson. Trevor I will do that tonight Friday. If there is a choice what do you wish faster or slower velocity?.
April 17, 2015 at 7:58am

Trevor Craig Wilde. If possible Peter the 1062. Otherwise the 1067 new stock.

April 17, 2015 at 8:17am

Mike Barlow. Peter Those bullets Elaine wants are marked 'Bull Only' with no speed indicator - if you find some let me know.
April 17, 2015 at 9:33am

Elaine Kettle. I'm thinking if Peter Watson finds any he'll be keeping them to himself :)
April 17, 2015 at 10:18am

Peter Watson. Mike, these are very difficult to find. I know because Andy & Malcolm are having trouble finding them even with batch tested ammo.
April 17, 2015 at 10:27am

Peter Watson. Elaine would I do a thing like that to a lady. That's the sort of thing Cowboys and Car dealers do.
April 17, 2015 at 10:34am

Elaine Kettle. And how do you describe yourself?
April 17, 2015 at 10:35am
